(PEDIATRICS)
People who have sickle cell disease need regular medical care. Some doctors and clinics specialize in treating people who have the disease. Hematologists specialize in treating adults and children who have blood diseases or disorders.

In the state of California, there are several PEDIATRIC sickle cell disease special care centers.  These Special Care Centers are a system that:
  • Provides coordinated care to clients with specific genetic conditions
  • Multi-disciplinary and multi-specialty teams which consists of doctors, nurses, social workers, and other health team members
  • Provides family centered planning
  • Facilitates timely and appropriate care

Special Care Centers are located throughout California and usually connected with tertiary level medical centers.
